The historic and iconic Richborough Cooling Towers near Sandwich are to be destroyed.

They've been a feature of Kent's skyline for five decades will be brought to the ground in less than a minute today.

The controlled demolition by explosive experts to allow the owners of the plant to build a green energy park on the land.

The three cooling towers and giant chimney started burning fuel from the Kent coalfields in 1962. The station later burned oil to generate electricity for the National Grid until it's closure in 1996.

Engineers have been planning the explosion since last summer.
