An investigation has begun into the death of man whose body was found in a house fire in Leigh-on-Sea.
Three crews were sent to the house in Ormonde Gardens in Leigh-on-Sea at just after 8am.
They found the house was heavily smoke logged. Crews wearing breathing apparatus searched the house and found the body of a man in the lounge.
The fire was put out by 9.15am.
Assistant Divisional Officer Martyn Hodder, Incident Commander, said: "A neighbour walking the dog raised the alarm after seeing smoke.
"Crews quickly extinguished the fire and contained it to the lounge where the man was found and prevented the fire from spreading to the adjoining bungalow.
"The cause of the fire is not being treated as suspicious, but an investigation will be carried out because the incident involved a fatality.
"It appears that the elderly man lived alone."
