Eight fire stations across Kent have been closed after a review found there were more fire engines than would be needed, even in the event of a major emergency.

The assessment came after callouts dropped by a quarter.

Sites at Matfield, Halling, Horton Kirby, Sturry, Seal, St Margaret's, Queenborough and Rusthall are to close, with a second engine to be removed from Hythe.

But the reshuffle will also mean new stations will open at five locations, including New Ash Green and Herne Bay.
