"Be prepared to protect yourself, family, pets and property" - that's the message from the Environment Agency, which is warning the River Thames could flood in Oxford. It's been confirmed areas between Wolvercote down to Radley and Jericho are also on Flood Alert.

Residents are being warned that low lying land and roads will be affected first after yesterday's rainfall caused river levels to rise and the Thames at Godstow may spill out into the flood plain. River levels will continue to rise, but no property flooding is currently expected.

Persistent rainfall and strong winds are forecast overnight tonight and into tomorrow.

Advice from the Environment Agency:

  • Be prepared to protect yourself, family, pets and property.- Call Floodline on 0845 988 1188 for up-to-date flooding information.- Keep an eye on local water levels and weather conditions. Visit the Environment Agency website www.environment-agency.gov.uk for river level and flooding information.- Tune into weather, news and travel bulletins on local television and radio.- Avoid walking, cycling or driving through flood water.
