Sir Richard Branson ended up making the cross-channel journey by boat yesterday after problems with his kite but son Sam did kite surf the whole way and set a world record for doing so, at two hours and 18 minutes.

Nine people made it to Folkestone beach by kiteout of the 11 who set off, in itself a world record for the fastest group. Anda third record, for the fastest female kitesurf crossing was also set.
