The Australian track and field team has settled into its Olympic base at Tonbridge School in Kent. Around 100 athletes and officials are staying in two of the school's boarding houses. Their meals are following a menu prepared by the Australian squad nutritionists.
They will be using the running track and all its facilities, whilst a temporary gym for their exclusive use will also be set up in the Sports Centre. An ice bath facility is also being provided in the changing room area.
The Australian’s key performers are Sally Pearson, the 100 metres hurdler who last year was voted World Female Athlete of the Year, and pole vaulter Steve Hooker, who is the reigning Olympic Champion.
The whole party will travel up to London for the Opening Ceremony on July 27th but will then return to Tonbridge until the first half of the party travel back up to the Olympic village on July 30th. The rest will follow on August 5th.
The Belarus and Ukraine Judo teams will also be accommodated in some of the school boarding houses, and will be using the Tonbridge judo club training facilities.
