Trains to ease overcrowding

Meridian can reveal the Government will today order a new fleet of Japanese-style bullet trains to ease overcrowding in the Thames Valley.Hundreds of millions of pounds will be spent on 500 new carriages for the lines from Paddington to Banbury, Reading, Oxford and Newbury.It is the biggest ever order for new high speed trains.The carriages will be similar to the Javelin trains in use on the high speed line in Kent.Hitachi will be awarded the contract as Meridian exclusively revealed last week.
