A dog whose owner allowed her to get dangerously out of control is to be rehomed - after an impressive diet regime.
Dax has lost six kilograms, almost a stone, after being taken into care by council officers in Brighton. The Staffordshire Bull Terrier ballooned to 25.5kg (four stone) after her owner overfed her - around 10 kilograms more than is healthy.
At Brighton Magistrates Court on Monday, a permanent re-homing order was granted and Dax’s owner Lizzie Briscoe was ordered to pay £600 court costs. She had denied overfeeding Dax and failing to act on advice from animal welfare officers but after hearing evidence from 7 witnesses magistrates decided to grant the re-homing order.
Animal welfare officers, who were first alerted by a concerned dog walker, have worked with Ms Briscoe for the past two years to help her understand the dog's health needs.
Ms Briscoe now has 28 days in which to appeal against the order. After this, Dax
will be permanently re-homed.
