More than three hundred thousand A-Level students are now just hours away from finding out their results. The pressure on students to achieve top grades to get into some top performing universities is expected to be as great as ever.

But others are likely to have more spaces available this year - overall applications from students in England are 10% down with higher tuition fees being blamed for the drop. Our Social Affairs correspondent Christine Alsford reports.
