Crawley Town make best start to new season

Newly promoted Crawley moved to the top of npower League One thanks to a 3-0 win over 10-man Scunthorpe.

Gary Alexander scored a goal in each half, including one from the penalty spot, before Jonathan Forte headed the third with 10 minutes remaining to seal a comfortable win in their first match of the season.

Scunthorpe midfielder Mark Duffy was sent off in the 85th minute for a second bookable offence but Crawley had already wrapped up the match.

Meanwhile,** **Portsmouth were held to a 1-1 draw at Fratton Park by Bournemouth.

Izale McLeod fired the home side's goal from 30 yards in the 19th minute but Lee Barnard cancelled it out midway through the second half as the south coast sides shared the points.

Swindon tied 0-0 with Hartlepool after Tommy Miller missed a 72nd-minute penalty.League Division 2

Danny Kedwell scored twice at the Priestfield Stadium as Gillingham powered past Bradford 3-1.

Kedwell volleyed the opening goal from the right byline just before half-time then doubled his tally from the penalty spot when Bradford's Garry Thompson brought down Charlie Lee in the box.

Nahki Wells pulled one back for the visitors from the spot after he was fouled by Andy Frampton, but the Gills soon re-established their two-goal lead when Myles Weston scored with two minutes left on the clock.

Plymouth were beaten 2-0 at home by Aldershot thanks to Troy Brown's header and Josh Payne's penalty while Karl Sheppard's 61st-minute goal saw Accrington Stanley beat Southend at Roots Hall.
