Thousands of people are attending the Kent Miners Festival at Aylesham, between Canterbury and Deal.
It's the fourth time the festival has been held and many ex miners and their families have visited an exhibition showing the history of the area's four pits.
The mines in Betteshanger, Chislet, Snowdown and Tilmanstone once employed hundreds of men.
Chislet closed in 1969 and the remaining three pits were closed after the 1984-85 miners' strike.
The last to shut was Betteshanger in 1989.
