Controversial plans to bus hundreds of teenagers from inner city London to the tranquility of a state boarding school right in the heart of the South Downs National Park will be decided this week. The scheme from the Durand Education Trust has the personal backing of the Education Secretary. Supporters say it will transform the lives of children but planners are recommending the project at Stedham near Midhurst is turned down. Our social affairs correspondent Christine Alsford spoke to opponents Caroline Douglas, Adrian Hearle and Stephen McArdle plus supporter of the scheme Mark Dunn.
