House prices increased by 5.5% in December 2013. The Office for National Statistics reveal they have risen from a year earlier, and are up from 5.4% in November 2013. Nationally house prices rose by 5.7%.
The average UK house price reached £250,000 in December last year.
The statistics show that on a seasonally adjusted basis, average house prices increased by 0.9% between November and December 2013
In the south east prices rose by 3.8% over the last twelve months,
First time buyers securing their first property in December 2013 also felt the rise, paying on average, 7.4% more than in December 2012.
and for those who already own their own home, prices increased by 4.7% for the same period.
