A man has died after allegedly being involved in a fight in a Hampshire street.

The 35-year-old died in hospital following a brawl in the residential part of Eastleigh's High Street at about 4.30 this morning

Two men, aged 22 and 25 have been arrested and remain in custody.

Police believe one of the suspects lost their shoes during the fight and have asked residents to get in touch if they find footwear in their gardens.

The force said the dead man, from the local area, suffered severe head injuries and was taken to Southampton General Hospital where he died a short time later.

A post-mortem examination will take place later on Sunday or on Monday.

The street remained cordoned off into Sunday while the scene was forensically examined.

We want to reassure local residents that this appears to be an isolated incident, and if they have any concerns to come forward and speak to officers who will be in the area today.

We will be studying CCTV from the area and we urge anyone who witnessed this incident, or has any information which could help us, to come forward and speak to us as soon as possible.

We believe it is possible that one of the suspects may have lost their footwear during the altercation and we would ask that if any local residents find any shoes discarded in their garden or along the road from the route along the High Street to Chestnut Avenue to please just contact us and we will collect them.
