Parents vow to fight academy conversion

How much sway do parents have when a school wants to go it alone and become an academy? Not enough say scores of parents from Sussex currently fighting plans for their 1,500 pupil community school to opt out of local authority control. They want a parental ballot to assess the strength of feeling. But they believe they will have to consider direct action such as removing their children from class - or sending them to school no wearing uniform - in order to make governors sit up and take notice.
