Couple had food thrown at them in homophobic attack

A woman suffered a fractured eye socket during a homophobic attack outside a gay bar in Southsea.

Her male friend also suffered a cut lip in the incident, during which they were subjected to homophobic abuse and had food thrown at them.

The incident happened in St Pauls Road, by the Hampshire Boulevard venue, between 2.45am and 3.15am on Saturday, October 15.

The victims, a 22-year-old man and a 28-year-old woman, were approached by three white men, described as being in their early 20s.

This was a totally unprovoked attack and it is being treated as a homophobic incident.

“While this was an isolated incident, we will not tolerate assaults of this kind. If anyone saw what happened they should call 101 as soon as possible.”
