Thousands of Portsmouth fans are expected on Southsea Common this afternoon to celebrate promotion to League Two as champions.

Portsmouth took the title in impressive form, beating Cheltenham 6-1 at Fratton Park on the last day of the season, while promotion rivals Plymouth could only draw.

Today, nursing sore heads perhaps, the team and fans will gather for a victory celebration at the seafront.

Sadly there'll be no open-top bus parade, but the event, organised by Portsmouth City Council will include live acts and speeches.

The free event starts at 1pm, and players, management and directors will receive the official city commendation from the Lord Mayor of Portsmouth.

Yesterday's victory ensured that the Blues climbed above Doncaster and Plymouth to claim the League Two title.

Daniel O'Shaughnessy's own-goal meant that the hosts led at the break.

And the floodgates opened after it, as Kyle Bennett, Jamal Lowe and Gareth Evans all found the target, while Kal Naismith bagged a brace.
