Kent footballer Mambo takes No.5 shirt for charity

Fans are rejoicing after Kent footballer Yado Mambo took the number five shirt following a growing social media campaign recognising the similarities between his name and the famous song 'Mambo Number Five'.

Fans noticed the correlation with Lou Bega’s 1999 chart-topping single ‘Mambo No.5’ during Ebbsfleet’s game against Leyton Orient - which was televised showing Mambo wearing the No.18 shirt.

Yado joined the club six years ago but could not take the number five shirt because their captain Dave Winfield wears that number.

Even if the skipper had allowed his number to be swapped six seasons on, the club say squad numbers registered with the league can't be changed mid-season.

The club are auctioning the exclusive Mambo No.5 home shirt with a signed photograph of Yado holding the shirt on eBay.
