Highway patrol officers in our region are being taught essential lifesaving skills to help those involved in accidents.
Highways England has 300 traffic officers with 60 of these on patrol at any given moment. Often, they're the first on the scene before the emergency services.
They will be trained on how to implement the recovery position and CPR, respond to a cardiac arrest and shock and treat wounds and bleeding.
It's expected that all traffic officers in the UK will be given essential training by next year. As Tony Green reports.
