Church of England criticised for handling of historic abuse claims

A report into claims of child abuse by one of the Church's most respected bishops, has found that the inquiry was too quick to accept the allegations.

The Church of England paid compensation to a Sussex woman, known as 'Carol' who claimed the then Bishop of Chichester, George Bell, had abused her when she was a child in the 1950s.

He died 60 years ago but his supporters have since campaigned to clear his name, saying the allegations should have been properly investigated.
