Drink driver banned for 2.5 years after head-on crash

A 45-year-old woman from Polegate in Sussex has been disqualified from driving for 32 months after causing a head-on collision.

Sussex Police said that Emma Tingley was almost four times the drink drive limit when her black Ford Focus was involved in the collision with a white Toyota Aygo in Willingdon Drove in Eastbourne.

It happened at about 6.18pm on 30th November 2017, after her car drifted onto the wrong side of the carriageway before the crash at the junction with Sevenoaks Road.

Another vehicle, a white DAF van was also slightly damaged. Tingley failed a roadside breath test, so she was arrested and charged with driving with 134mcg of alcohol per 100ml of breath in her system. The legal limit is 35mcg. She pleaded guilty at Brighton Magistrates Court on 21st December last year. She has been disqualified from driving for 32 months and sentenced to a 12-month community order during which she must do 200 hours of unpaid work. She was also ordered to pay £85 in costs and an £85 victim surcharge.

Sussex Police have said that people in the county can report people they suspect of drink or drug-driving by sending a text with the details to officers on 65999. You can also visit the Operation Crackdown website. The force also says that you can report situations anonymously by visiting the Crimestoppers website or by telephoning Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

Officers advise the public to call 999 if they know that someone is driving while over the alcohol limit or after taking drugs.
