Stalemate in the South as not much changes in local elections

It was the first big test of public opinion since last year's General Election. But by the time the last votes had been counted - well, not a lot had changed.

The Conservatives held onto Basingstoke and Deane, Fareham, Gosport, Havant, Rushmoor and Winchester.

Labour remains in control of Crawley, AND Southampton, although there, both the Labour and Conservative party leaders lost their seats.

Hart remains in no overall control- as does Portsmouth - although there were some Labour gains on the night.

In Adur and Worthing the counts took place this afternoon- both remain as they were - Conservative holds.
