Children moved out of "inadequate" care home

A children’s home in West Sussex has been closed for being “inadequate”.

Seaside Children’s Home in Shoreham-by-Sea was given a suspension notice by Ofsted with immediate effect.

The home, run by West Sussex County Council, was given the rating in June and a re-inspection last week.

Inspectors said there were ‘serious and widespread failures’ at the home.

They say some existing staff were untrained for their roles and were 'overwhelmed' by the situation.

Children at the home have been found alternative accommodation. The council say no new placements will be made there for the foreseeable future.

Following the report, the council have closed two other homes, carrying out its own 'proactive review'.

Those children are currently being found alternative places to live.

Obviously, I am disappointed by the report but we accept the findings. We have taken the initiative and where we haven’t been satisfied by the standards of care, we have taken the necessary and appropriate action.”
