An estimated 1,000 people are at All Saints Church in Maidstone for a memorial service celebrating the life of Edwin Boorman. He was the Kent Messenger Group president and head of the family which created and ran the newspaper and media group.
He had in the past been High Sheriff of Kent, president of the Newspaper Society and was awarded an OBE for services to the Royal British Legion in Kent. He died after a short illness, aged 76.
Family friends and colleagues described him as a hugely influential business figure, a man passionate about community life in Kent and a champion of local causes and charities.
The congregation includes Terry Waite, former Conservative Party leader Michael Howard, MPs, business leaders, colleagues, family and friends.
A memorial service is being held today, to remember the life of KM Group's president Edwin Boorman.
The Gillingham Band and Ashford Choral Society will be providing the music at the service at All Saints Church in Mill Street in Maidstone.
Mr Boorman passed away last month after a short illness.
