Hampshire Fire & Rescue have issued a warning tonight after a woman followed her sat nav direction into a flooded road. It happened as she made her way way to Hook in Hampshire.
Fire crews from Hartley Wintney, Rushmoor & Basingstoke used their ‘blues and twos’ to help the trapped driver guide them in. Two firefighters trained in water rescue then carried the woman to safety. Hants Fire & Rescue have urged everyone to take extra precautions in the rain.
Firefighter Shergold said: “The driver didn’t know her location but believed she was on the B3349. Through a series of questions together, and with two control operator colleagues listening to the call and using a map tool on our system, we were able to establish that she was on an unnamed road."
The driver turned off a main road and followed a route into a country lane which had flooded during recent heavy rainfall. The driver was unable to see the edge of the road due to the high level of water and the car drifted across into a ditch. She called the emergency services to call for help.
