The chief executive of Peel Ports has spoken of his disappointment after wind turbine manufacturer Vestas pulled out of a deal to build a factory at Sheerness - that would have created 1,600 jobs.
In a statement, Peel Ports Chief Executive, Mark Whitworth said:
“We are extremely disappointed that we have been unable to conclude the agreement with Vestas. However, we remain fully committed to the strategy outlined for the Port of Sheerness of attracting major renewables manufacturers to complement our valued heritage business."_
Vestas has pulled out a multi-million pound deal to build a wind turbine factory in Kent. The Danish company had planned to take over 70 hectares of land at Sheerness Docks - creating between 1,600 to 2,000 jobs. But the firm pulled out of the deal this morning. More updates to follow.
