Navy provide Olympic security

The Royal Navy's flagship HMS Bulwark is sailing into Dorset to provide security for the Olympic games.

The Royal Navy has released a statement ahead of the arrival of HMS Bulwark into Weymouth for patrol duty during the Olympic games. Royal Marines, Merlin helicopters, and landing craft will be working with police and civilian forces to ensure the safety of the public during the games.

“We’re honoured as a nation to be hosting the International Olympic events and the Royal Navy stands ready to support the nation in home waters. HMS Bulwark’s task this summer is to support the policing operation in a discreet manner with the provision of capabilities and resources to augment British policing.

The Royal Marines will work with the police and civilian staff to patrol Weymouth during the Olympic games.

HMS Bulwark the Royal Navy's flag ship will sail into the town later as the force prepares for London 2012.

Merlin helicopters, patrol vessels and landing craft will monitor the coast during the games.
