A couple and their two young sons were rescued after becoming stranded on their boat in heavy seas in the middle of the Solent.
The 28 foot boat was on its way from Lymington to Island Harbour in the River Medina when it suffered engine failure a mile off Egypt Point, Cowes.
When the lifeboat arrived on the scene the crew were faced with the difficult task of securing a tow-rope on the motor cruiser while it was being buffeted by a two-metre swell in a Force 5 south-westerly.
Rescuer Pete Cunningham was twice nearly swept into the sea as he struggled to tie a tow-rope on the bows.
With the rope finally secured, the motor-cruiser was eventually towed into Cowes harbour.
