One of the powerboat drivers injured in a crash in Weymouth Bay yesterday has died. Driver Mike Lovell came from Southampton.
Two Southampton powerboat racers badly injured after their boat flipped over during a race have been named.
Driver Mike Lovell, from Southampton, and navigator Dan Whapples, from Warsash, were taking part in a national powerboat racing championship in Weymouth Bay yesterday.
These new pictures show them in a previous race before they were thrown clear from their powerboat as it rolled over.
They were then recovered from the water before being flown to hospital.
Two men have been flown to Southampton General Hospital. They were seriously hurt after a powerboat flipped over during a race in Weymouth Boy. One was transferred by an air ambulance whist our cameraman captured the moment the Portland coastguard helicopter landed with the other casualty.
Organisers of the P1 SuperStock UK Championship have cancelled the race. An inquiry has been launched by the Marine Accident Investigation Branch.
