A man who was caught and pinned down by shoppers after robbing a jewellery shop has been jailed.

The thief was part of a gang of four who smashed their way into Michael Jones Jewellers in Banbury with hammers last September.

Today he was sentenced to five years and three months behind bars. Sion Donovan has the story and speaks to eyewitness John Lucas and Det Insp Mike Lynch.

Jimmy Stringer, 23, was one of four people who smashed their way into Michael Jones Jewellers in Banbury, armed with sledgehammers.

He was jailed today for five years and three months for his part in the robbery. Passers by helped bring him to justice, holding him down until police arrived.
