Major blaze in St Leonards

10.45am this morning East Sussex Fire & Rescue Service was alerted to a fire at the Hastings Hire Centre on Menzies Road, St Leonards on Sea. The first crew arrived at the four storey building within five minutes.

St Leonards blaze out, firefighters say

The fire in Menzies Road, St Leonards is now out, though the cause is still being investigated, firefighters say.

I’d like to commend the firefighters for their efforts, particularly those from HastingsBohemia Road who were the first on the scene within five minutes and who did afantastic job containing the fire before support appliances arrived from across thecounty.

Major fire being battled in St Leonards

Firefighters say they are on the scene of a major fire in St Leonards.

Crews were alerted at 10.45am to a blaze in the Hastings Hire Centre on Menzies Road. They arrived at the four storey building and within five minutes further firefighters were called.

Ten appliances are currently at the incident, crewed by firefighters from Hastings Bohemia Road, Hastings The Ridge, Bexhill, Battle, Rye, Lewes, Herstmonceux and Pevensey.

The fire is now surrounded by firefighters tackling the blaze. Sussex Police and the ambulance service are also attending.

One person has been taken to hospital to be treated for smoke inhalation, another treated for smoke inhalation at the scene, and two people have received precautionary checks.

The cause of the fire at this stage is unknown.
