The final preparations are being made for the first ever "Herring Fair" to be held at Hastings Old Town this weekend.

A packed programme of events will include herring tasters, talks, demonstrations, music and a real "herring bone suit".

The festival's been designed to highlight why the fish have been so important to the town over hundreds of years, with exhibits at The Fishermen's Museum and Hastings History House.

Local pubs and restaurants will also take part with special lunch-time menus and traditional cattern cakes to accompany the Hastings Bonfire Society celebrations on Saturday.

Cllr Peter Chowney said: “This first Hastings Herring Fair, run by the Fisheries Local Action Group, aims to promote herring and the Hastings fishing fleet to the general public and professional chefs alike, and promises to be an exciting weekend of all things fishy.”
