Gatwick saw an increase in passenger numbers last month.

Boosted by rises in long-haul flights, the airport handled more than 2.22 million passengers in November 2012 - up 4.2% on the November 2011 figure.

The West Sussex airport's numbers were also swelled by the slightly later school half-term holiday this year.

Although North American flight numbers fell more than 5%, other long-haul traffic rose 11%. Overall, flights flew 80.8% full last month - an increase of 2.3% on November 2011.

Gatwick bosses are now looking forward to operating a number of new routes for 2013, including easyJet services to Moscow, to Santiago in Spain and to Kalamata in Greece.

Other carriers due to launch new routes from Gatwick next year include British Airways, Norwegian Air and Spanish low-fare airline Vueling.
