British Transport Police (BTP) officers are appealing for information after a passenger witnessed racial slurs onboard an Oxfordshire train.

Investigators have released this CCTV image of a man they would like to speak to in connection with the incident, which took place on Friday, September 28th.

PC Bob Maulini said: “Two men boarded the 4.26pm Oxford to Bicester service when one of the men began to make racially-aggravated comments to his friend.

“The comments made by the men, who are believed to have been drinking previously, were highly offensive and made the victim feel vulnerable and fear for her own safety.”

Officers have spoken to witnesses onboard the train and viewed CCTV of the local area. Images have also passed through intelligence systems in a bid to identify the man but without success.

PC Maulini added: “This was a shocking incident and this type of racially-aggravated verbal abuse is simply unacceptable.

“I’d urge anyone who recognises the man to come forward and assist police in this investigation."

Information can be passed to BTP on 0800 405040 quoting background reference B16/LNA of 29/11/2012, or independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
