Primary school results tables out

The latest primary school results table has been released, detailing how more than 15,000 schools performed in national tests.

At the bottom of the class

In the South East, 78 primary schools in are failing to meet expected standards in English and Maths. The latest league tables released today show the region is overall one of the worst-performing in the country.

In Ashford three primary schools failed to make the grade: Linden Grove, Beaver Green and John Wesley C of E primary schools. In Sussex, Three Bridges Junior in Crawley and in Essex, the Phoenix Primary in Basildon were amongst the bottom 200 in the country.

But some schools that weren't achieving have improved and some are excelling Charlotte Wilkins has more details. In her report, we hear from Janet Fletcher, Lorraine Wickens and Councillor Mike Whiting from Kent County Council.


Best performing primary school

School league tables have revealed we have the best performing primary school in the country in our region. Every single pupil at South Farnham in Surrey reached the government's required standard in both English and maths for the second year running.

But there's also bad news - Portsmouth is named as having the highest percentage of schools falling short of government targets - and 13 schools in our region came in the bottom 200. Christine Alsford reports on the winners and losers.
