Nearly a quarter of Britain's cats is overweight according to their owners.
Despite this nearly three quarters are given a special food treat every week by their doting owners, including a third who get one or more every day.
The figures released by Cats Protection suggest that the term 'puppy dog eyes' may need to be rephrased to 'kitty cat eyes' as even a quarter of felines described as being 'very overweight' somehow manage to waggle a special treat every day.
The study also showed that this Christmas was a bumper one for the UK's cats, as many got to enjoy their food as much as the rest of the family.
Nearly 1 in 10 fed their cats a special Christmas dinner consisting of all the things you'd expect to see on your own plate.
Others were treated to chocolate (2%) and stuffing (2%) and some even enjoyed dessert in the form of Christmas pudding.
