An investigation is underway after a fire at a property in the grounds of Stroud School in Romsey. A woman in her eighties was led to safety after the alert shortly after 7 o'clock this morning. More than fifty firefighters from Romsey, Eastleigh, St Mary's and Redbridge attended the incident.
The fire was extinguished by 10am, but Hampshire Fire & Rescue Service crews remain at the scene damping down the site.
Station Manager Mickey Smither said: "The fire spread very quickly throughout the property. We had a shortage of water supply at the early stages of the fire because the hydrant supply was weak, which hindered fire fighting slightly.
"However, crews worked hard to run the hose reel, requested for the water board to increase the supply and immediately mobilised two water carriers."
