Newsroom report on investigation into hospital deaths
VIDEO: A hospital in Medway is to be investigated over its mortality rates, the NHS has announced. It's one of nine hospital trusts which will be looked at following the scandal at the Mid Staffordshire hospital. For more on this story, Andrew Pate reports.
"Quality of care and treatment is paramount at Medway and many quality of care markers show the Trust is delivering good standards of care; the Trust fully meets the Care Quality Commission’s strict standards.
"Incidences of pressure ulcers and falls in hospital are in line with or better than national rates, and continue to improve, and infection rates are some of the lowest in the South of England.
"As part of ongoing investment in patient safety, in October 2012 we invested in extending the critical care outreach team to improve the response to deteriorating patients 24/7."
Nine more hospital trusts are to be investigated over their mortality rates. The NHS Commissioning Board made the announcement. The hospital trusts will include Medway NHS Foundation Trust and Buckinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust.
