In a statement Oxford City council said: “Having considered all of the evidence and submissions the (Standards) Committee made a finding of fact that it was highly probable that Councillor Armitage did make an inappropriate comment to one of the members of the under 13s sports team.
“The Committee resolved that the remark was inappropriate and disrespectful and therefore amounted to a breach of paragraph 3(1) of the Code (treating others with respect).
“As the Lord Mayor attended the Awards Evening in his official capacity the Committee also concluded that the inappropriate remark had brought both the office of Lord Mayor and the City Council into disrepute."
The Lord Mayor of one of our most historic cities has been given an official "telling off" for making an inappropriate remark to a schoolgirl.
Alan Armitage was told his alleged comments brought both the Mayor's office - and Oxford City Council - into disrepute.
He says he doesn't remember using the word "sexy" at a sports prize-giving ceremony but the council says it was "highly probable" he did.
He's been telling Penny Silvester why he should still be Lord Mayor.
