Five hundred homes are now without power after electricity was restored to 3,000 properties in the Southampton area following a cut.
A power cut affecting 3,500 homes in the Southampton area is still ongoing.
Southern Electric has said it is sorry that customers are being affected.
Engineers are still investigating the fault and are sourcing generators as a back up to restore power.
People in 3,500 homes are without power after problems at a substation to the east of Southampton just before 1pm. Temporary power loss has affected areas including Sholing, Thornhill, Bursledon, Curdridge, Hedge End, Botley and certain surrounding areas.
Southern Electric said its engineers were working on the problem and hoped to have power back on in the majority of affected areas by 4pm.
