Mr Lyons said that unlike UKIP, which is also against HS2, they already have an MP fighting the plans in Parliament.
He said: “We just don’t need HS2, it’s absolutely crackers.”
However, the ruling Conservatives on both the District and County Council as well as local MPs are against the plan.
HS2 say the £32bn scheme will create 100,000 jobs and provide a much needed boost to the economy.
Those against say it has no business case and will ruin areas of outstanding natural beauty.
