“Shaya is my whole world. We have always been together and will be forever. There are no words that can explain my love for her as her mum and the pain of having her taken away from me.”

– Shaya's mother

“Shaya really was everything any Grandmother could possibly have hoped for – beautiful, talented, kind and considerate. I shall miss all the special moments we shared and her visits to see me. Life really won’t ever be the same. I’ll always love you Shaya, your broken hearted Nan x”

– Shaya's grandmother

“Shaya was a happy, bubbly niece, the best I could have asked for. Her cousins Zara and Harvey adored her and she loved them so much. Our hearts are broken, our lives are shattered. We love you so much Shaya. Auntie Alison, Zara and Harvey”

"We are heartbroken" - A family's tribute

The family of 18-year-old Shaya Rae Leigh, who was killed when the car she was driving left the road and went down an embankment, has paid tribute. Shaya died alongside Kerry Staniford, who was 17.

They were travelling on the northbound carriageway of the A419 near the A420 White Hart junction, when the Renault Clio left the road and ended up down a bank in undergrowth.

“Our hearts go out to all families involved in this tragic event. Shaya was a granddaughter, daughter, sister, cousin and niece, but above all she was our friend. We are heartbroken and are finding it hard to believe we will never see her smile or hear her laughter again. Forever in our hearts. The FamiLeigh”.

– Shaya's father
