The family of a four-year-old boy who died after a mirror fell on him in Bicester, have released a statement.

Hugo Boss has cancelled its 'London Collections: Men' party after a four-year-old boy died when a mirror fell on him at the label's Bicester Village outlet store last week.

Following the sad incident in our Bicester store last week, Hugo Boss has decided to cancel the London Collections: Men event next week which was due to be held on Monday, June 17. Everyone at Hugo Boss is devastated by the matter and we feel that it would be inappropriate to host a party so soon after the event.

The child suffered serious head injuries and later died in hospital.

Hugo Boss release statement after child dies after accident in Bicester store

In a statement, Hugo Boss said: "At around 8.30pm on June 4, a four-year-old child was injured by a mirror falling on him. The child suffered serious injuries and was treated at hospital where this morning (Saturday) he passed away.

"Everyone at Hugo Boss is devastated by this tragic accident and we would like to extend our deepest condolences and sympathies to his family. All of our thoughts are with them at this time.

"Hugo Boss will assist the authorities in any way with an investigation into the accident."

A company spokesman refused to reveal the size of the mirror or give details of how it fell and whether it fell from height. He said the store would remain closed until further notice.

In a statement, the shopping centre said: " Everyone at Bicester Village is deeply saddened by this tragic accident. We send our heartfelt condolences to the family and our thoughts and prayers are with them.

"The matter is now under investigation and there is no further comment at this time."

4-year-old boy dies after accident in shop

The accident happened on Tuesday evening when the child was in the Hugo Boss store at Bicester Outlet shopping village in Pingle Drive. It is believed part of a shop fitting fell on him causing serious head injuries.

The child was taken to the John Radcliffe hospital in Oxford, where he subsequently died in the early hours of this morning. Det Insp Steve Duffy said: “Our thoughts are with the family at this time.”

“We are currently investigating the circumstances of this boy’s death and we would ask anyone who was in the Hugo Boss store at around that time on Tuesday to please contact us as a matter of urgency on the 101 Thames Valley Police number."
