Brightly painted barges and canal boats drew crowds to the banks in Reading today for the town's Water Festival. Heather Edwards took in the sights and sounds of the colourful event.
There will be plenty of messing about on the water in the Thames Valley over the next few days. Thousands of people are expected at Reading's Water Festival tomorrow before the show moves upstream to Newbury the following weekend.
The festivals are a celebration of our waterway towns. And this year the charity that saved the Kennet and Avon canal from closure, has particular cause to celebrate. Penny Silvester reports

Video. Preparations are underway for Reading's Water Festival which takes place on Saturday. Thousands of people are expected to attend the event as it winds its way through the town. There will be three parades, stalls and live music.
