Archbishop of Canterbury to visit Holy Land

The Archbishop of Canterbury will begin a five-day visit of Egypt and the Holy Land this weekend.

The Most Rev Justin Welby will fly to Egypt to meet fellow Anglican bishops and visit holy sites.

Mr Welby is said to be keenly aware of the pressures on the region at the moment - not least the conflict in Syria.

The Archbishop also spent his honeymoon in the Holy Land with his wife, Caroline, who will be travelling with him on the trip.

The Archbishop has visited the Middle East several times prior to taking on his new role and wants to support the work of the president-bishop of the Episcopal Church and Anglican bishop in Jerusalem.
