Search for man lost in Australia 'scaled down'

Three weeks after a man from Berkshire went missing in Australia, his family say they are starting to come to terms with the fact that they may never see him again.

23 year old Gary Tweddle, originally from Reading, disappeared after attending a work conference in the Blue Mountains near Sydney on July the 16th.

The search has now been scaled down to a "recovery operation".

Hundreds of emergency workers and volunteers have spent the last three weeks scouring scrubland around the area where Gary was last seen.

He had called a friend just after midnight and told him he was lost in bushland near a main road after becoming separated from a group.

Nothing was heard from him after that.

His father David, who's just come back from Australia where he was helping with the search, has described returning to the UK without his son as "horrific". He says the family is now coming to terms with the fact they may never see Gary again.

They've launched an online appeal using Facebook asking for information but as yet it hasn't proved successful. Visit the page here.
