England's women are through to the EuroHockey final for the first time in 22 years after a penalty shoot-out victory over Holland in Belgium.

England women "over the moon" to be in finals

England and Reading striker Alex Danson says the squad are "over the moon" to be in the finals of the EuroHockey Championships in Belgium.

They beat Olympic champions the Netherlands on penalties after the game finished in a 1-1 draw.

Alex and Helen Richardson, who also plays for Reading, both contributed to England’s tally to take the shoot-out 3-2.

Alex spoke to ITV Meridian's Mel Bloor from Belgium this morning.

England's women are through to the EuroHockey final for the first time in 22 years after a penalty shoot-out victory over Holland in Belgium.

The semi-final finished 1-1 after 70 minutes and the teams were level at 2-2 after five penalties each with Maddie Hinch making three saves to take the shootout to sudden death.

Reading's Helen Richardson and Eva de Goede both saw their penalties saved but Alex Danson, who also plays for Reading, netted and a further save from Hinch saw England through.
