Kent home's great expectations

Fund-raising begins to create Dickens heritage centre

Live updates

New chapter for Charles Dickens' house

The former home of Charles Dickens near Rochester is set to become a heritage centre. Gad's Hill Place has been a school since the 1920s but students are now moving into a state-of-the-art building next door.

A charity will begin fund-raising in the hope of turning the house into an international visitor attraction in a few years time.

We speak to Dickens' great-great granddaughter Marion Dickens, her son the actor Harry Lloyd, Headmaster David Craggs and pupils of Gad's Hill School.
