Sheppey 'needs safety measures'

Emergency services in Kent have been dealing with a major collision. More that 100 vehicles were involved in a pile-up on the A249 in Sheppey.

A helicopter has been above the A249 and sent back these shots of the crash involving up to 100 vehicles. Kent Police were called at about 7.15am on 5th September 2013 to the London-bound carriageway on the Sheppey crossing.

They say collisions were reported at the top of the crossing and at the foot of the approach to the crossing. Emergency services are currently dealing with the incident. Six people have been seriously injured and about 200 are walking wounded.
