Teachers strike in Oxford

For thousands of children - it's been an extra day off school. But for parents it's meant coping with the nightmare of having to re-arrange child care.

School teachers involved in today's walkout say they're sorry for disruption, but insist it's the only way they can show their anger over proposed changes to their pay, pensions and workloads. Divya Kohli has this report.


School gates are shut in Winchester as teachers strike

St Faith's School in Winchester is closed for business today, as teachers take part in a national strike. Hundreds of other schools across our region are also closed due to the day of action.

Members of the two main unions say the government failed to enter into meaningful talks in a row over pay and pensions. The Department of Education says the walkout is disappointing and disruptive for parents.
